All good horror films are think pieces.
Delivering a message to society about where we have gone wrong and what we do right. George Romero’s Dawn of the dead is a perfect example of this.
Dark Forces speaks on many levels. But the message I find most fascinating is its statement on the film industry and how it transforms you. We can’t escape our successes and failures. We are all haunted by our phantasms and previous works.
What’s beautiful about the film is the way it handles these subjects without being preachy, depressing, or overbearing. I have no desire to get in the way of entertaining people, but I would like to demand more from the genre. To make something with meaning.
Dark Forces gives me the honor and pleasure of doing both.
